In this podcast, we speak about what is perhaps the most sensual of the five senses, our sense of touch. You’ll learn vocabulary, expressions, idioms and more in this episode of Aprender Inglés with Reza and Craig.

To feel
To rub – moving back and forth.
To caress – with gentleness. e.g. your lover’s hair/face
To stroke – with short repeated movements.
To fondle – touching part of the body in a sensual/sexual way.
To finger – touching something too much. e.g.”Please stop fingering all the cherries in the bowl!”; using your finger(s) to touch your girlfriend’s XXXX extremely intimately!!
To pat – using the palm of your hand.
To tap – like patting, with the palm or fingers, but very quickly
To scratch – using your nails to scratch itchy skin
To grip – To hold something tightly.
Tactile – Relating to the sense of touch.
Texture: the feel or appearance of a surface or substance
Haptic feedback: physical feedback that provides information to the sense of touch

Idioms and expressions

Get in touch, keep in touch, stay in touch, lose touch, to be/not be in touch with someone. “ I’ll be in touch”.

Slip through one’s fingers – To lose something, often an opportunity.

A soft touch – Someone who is easily persuaded or overly generous.

Touch base – To briefly communicate or check in with someone.

Touch a (raw) nerve – To accidentally upset someone by mentioning something sensitive

Touch-and-go – A risky or uncertain situation.

Touchy-feely – Prone to expressing (physical) affection

To touch up – Add little improvements to something; fondle someone without consent (feel up)
