Vocabulary
Handmade
Craftsman/woman – an artisan/worker in a very skilled trade
Craftsmanship – The quality and skill shown in something made by hand.
DIY (Do It Yourself) – The activity of making or repairing things yourself.

Woodwork – making things with wood
Wickerwork – making things with wicker (very thin strips of flexible intertwined wood)
Upcycle – To reuse something in a way that increases its value.
Textiles – Types of cloth or fabric.
Leatherworking – Making things with leather (animal skin)
Sketch – A simple, quick drawing. (to sketch, to draw, to paint, to doodle)
Mosaic – A picture made by placing small pieces of tile, glass, or stone together
Collage – A piece of art made by sticking different materials on a surface
Embroidery – Decorative stitching on fabric.
Origami – The Japanese art of paper folding.
Pottery – Objects made from clay by a potter (not Harry Potter!) and hardened by heat.

Sculpt – To shape something by carving or moulding.
Sculptor – A person who sculpts (notice pronunciation)
Sculpture – The work of sculptors (notice pronunciation)
Stencil – A template used to draw or paint a shape.
Beading – Decorating with small, colourful beads.
Knitting – Making fabric by looping yarn with needles.
Glue gun – A tool that uses hot glue for crafting.
Thatched roof – A roof made of dried straw (thatch)
Thatching – The work done by a thatcher (not Margaret Thatcher!)
Scrapbooking – Creating decorated albums with photos and memories in a scrapbook.
Idioms
Draw the line – To set a limit on what is acceptable.
Paint yourself into a corner – To get into a difficult situation by one’s own actions.
To potter (around) – To do this and that in an unhurried way. If you act like this, you’re a potterer (not a potter!)
Work of art – Something very beautiful or well made, often used metaphorically.
A blank canvas – Something with no content or restrictions, ready to be developed or filled with creativity.
(As) mad as a hatter – To describe a really crazy person
