In this podcast, you’ll learn 12 fixed expressions that will help you sound more like a native English speaker.
This week I’m very happy to have Lynne, from putitlikethis.com on the podcast. Actually, this is a re-edited version of a live stream that Lynne and I did about 2 months ago in which we introduced and practiced 12 useful fixed expressions like ‘loud and clear’, ‘short and sweet’ and ‘nice and easy’
Lynne and I will be back in September, 2022 with more free live streams. To watch these free live streams and see the replay, go to Facebook.com/mansioningles or check out the mansion ingles YouTube channel: La Mansion del Ingles.
Remember, you can see all the expressions we talk about in this episode, and Lynne’s website address putitlikethis.com, in the show notes for this episode at inglespodcast.com/426.
So, sit back, relax and enjoy this podcast episode about fixed expressions with Lynne.
These fixed expressions (or binomial expressions) are actually easier to use than idioms because you’re more likely to use them in the right context.
Example: pros and cons (we don’t usually say ‘cons and pros’)
Group 1 (positive meaning)
Loud and clear
Nice and easy
Clean and tidy / neat and tidy / spick and span
Short and sweet
Group 2 (negative meaning)
Skin and bones
Aches and pains
Sick and tired
Wear and tear
Group 3 (similar words)
Safe and sound
Peace and quiet
Bright and early
Bits and pieces / odds and ends
Group 4 (same words)
On and on
Step by step – little by little, piece by piece, day by day
Face to face
Arm in arm
…and now it’s your turn to practise your English.
