Luke from Luke's English Podcast - bonus episode

It’s been years since Luke and I first spoke and it’s time to catch up on what we’ve been up to as teachers, as podcasters and also what’s changed in our personal lives.

Many thanks to Katty and Eva from The Chat Box for suggesting this podcast. If you want to practise your English, you should definitely join their group on Facebook.

If you want to listen to the first conversations that Luke and I had, go here where I was interview by Luke on his website (https://teacherluke.co.uk/) and here on inglespodcast.com for my interview of Luke.

Before we connected to record this episode, we collaborated on notes and possible discussion points. Although we spoke for over an hour, we only touched on about 20% of the topics in our notes! That’s one of the reasons I enjoy chatting to Luke. I never know where the conversation will lead and this podcast is an informal wander through various things we’ve been doing, and thinking about, these last few years.

We were interrupted a few times during the recording. After Luke had said how lovely and peaceful things were in his flat while his daughter was spending some time with her grandparents, the doorbell rang (it was the postman), we had a vacuum cleaner in the background and then the Paris sirens went off (I had no idea this happened in Paris!).

I cut out most of the interruptions, but they were very funny. The same sort of things (except the sirens) usually happen when I record the podcast with Reza. But with the magic of editing, you rarely hear them.

During our chat, we talk about Brexit, English tea, pangolins, teaching under COVID restrictions, living as an ex-pat in France and Spain, the worst jobs we’ve ever had and many other topics; some planned and some off the cuff (improvisado).

    Hello Craig,

once again it was a brilliant podcast episode. Every minute was worth listening to it. I have learnt a couple of new phrases like “bloody” or “release the beast”. I have to admit I have not listened to Luke’s podcast for about one year now. However, this episode has made me curious again. He speaks like a machine gun šŸ˜‰ and it is interesting and entertaining listening to him.
I guess it was an almost usual conversation between native speakers or did you take the listeners into consideration?
Anyway, I would not like to wait five years for the next episode. As everyone knows the waiting is the hardest part.

    My best wishes,
    Alex

      Hi Alex,
It was interesting because I had intended to make it more focused on the listeners, ours and Lukes, but at times I forgot and I just chatted to Luke as a friend.
I also think that, with Reza, we’re so used to podcasting together that we have a natural rhythm and we always have the audience in mind. It was a lot of fun talking with Luke and I hope we can have a ’round three’ very soon.

It was a great episode. Two of my favourites podcasters whose I’m regular long-term listener. I’ve been waiting for that moment since 2016.
Now I can use the same strategy and make swapcomments. Hahaha.
    Thank you Guys

I’m pleased you liked it, Ricardo. Thanks for listening.
