The 2020 pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus has changed the way many of us work. Some people have lost their jobs, some of us have been working from home and some jobs may disappear completely.
In this episode, we talk about jobs that no longer exist, new jobs that could soon disappear and which jobs may be in demand in the future.

Voice message from Nicolás from Colombia
A long time since I last reached out to you.
Uncommon professions – biomedical engineering (taking importance lately – growing importance, becoming increasingly important, increased importance)

To be laid off. to lose your job, to get the sack, to be fired, to be made unemployed, to be on the dole, to be made redundant, to be let go, to be dismissed, to be on furlough – in PASSIVE form here (with verb “to be”). NB. I was sacked by my boss (passive) = My boss sacked me (active).
A furlough is “a temporary layoff from work.” People who get furloughed usually get to return to their job after a furlough.
